AMBOSELI

Nestled along the Tanzanian border in southern Kenya, Amboseli National Park is located just northwest of Mount Kilimanjaro, offering stunning views of Africa's highest peak and the world's tallest free-standing mountain. Designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Amboseli boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Its expansive savannah grasslands are home to a vibrant array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, wildebeest, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, impalas, baboons, and hippos. Additionally, the park is a haven for bird enthusiasts, with over 400 different bird species recorded.

LAKE NAIVASHA

Lake Naivasha is a shallow freshwater lake located in the southern Rift Valley, surrounded by acacia woodlands. It is considered to be of recent geological origin and is encircled by extinct or dormant volcanoes. The lake is fed by the perennial Malewa and Gilgil Rivers, which drain from the Aberdare Mountains in central Kenya. Despite having no visible outlet, Lake Naivasha remains fresh due to a combination of underground seepage and sedimentation of salts, distinguishing it from other endorheic lakes in the eastern Rift Valley. The shoreline is lined with papyrus reeds, and the lake contains variable areas of submerged plants like Potamogeton species, as well as floating rafts of exotic water hyacinth.

Lake Naivasha is a crucial freshwater resource in an otherwise water-scarce region, supporting a diverse community of waterbirds and many large mammals. It also sustains significant economic activities, including flower farming, fishing, and geothermal power generation. The lake's ecology is fragile, with dynamic ecosystems and an uncertain water balance, set in a basin surrounded by intensively irrigated agricultural land and a rapidly growing township.

LAKE NAKURU

Situated in the Great Rift Valley at an elevation of 1,745 meters, Lake Nakuru is renowned for its large flocks of flamingos that thrive on its algae. The lake's size fluctuates with the rainfall, ranging from 5 to 45 square kilometres.

Located just south of Nakuru, Kenya's fourth-largest city, the park has seen a decline in flamingo numbers due to feeding pressures and pollution, although recent signs indicate a recovery.

Lake Nakuru National Park is also home to a significant rhino population, often seen resting under the lush acacia trees surrounding the lake.

Encircled by waterfalls, cliffs, and forests, the lake is a crucial water source for zebras, buffaloes, and the endangered Rothschild giraffe.

MAASAI MARA

The Masai Mara National Reserve in southwestern Kenya spans 1,510 square kilometres of gently rolling African savannah plains. It borders Tanzania's Serengeti National Park to the south. This unique wildlife conservation area is renowned for its extraordinary natural diversity and is the top safari destination in East Africa, attracting visitors with its abundant wildlife. The reserve is home to large populations of lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, African buffalo, wildebeest, giraffes, zebras, and many other animals, all roaming freely in their natural habitat across the expansive Kenyan wilderness.

It's no wonder that tourists worldwide flock to experience a Masai Mara safari, especially since the reserve has been named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. The name 'Masai' originates from the Maasai tribe, the area's nomadic inhabitants, and 'Mara' is their word for 'spotted,' describing the flat-topped acacia trees, shrubs, and bushes that dot the landscape throughout the reserve.
